The Place
WHERE WE ARE
Gandum Village is located in Montemor-o-Novo, in the heart of the Alentejo, less than an hour from Lisbon. A 14-hectare farm set in the protected area of Monfurado, where the tranquillity of the countryside, natural beauty and sustainability coexist in perfect harmony. Located just 3 km from the center of Montemor-o-Novo and with breathtaking views of the city's castle, this is a refuge where nature and history intersect.
Between paths that invite you to explore, fresh streams that cross the property and breathtaking landscapes, Gandum is a place where every detail has been thought out to create a balance between comfort, simplicity and regeneration.
Farm animals
Sheep and chickens are part of life at Gandum, contributing to the farm's self-sufficiency and making the atmosphere even more authentic.
real SUSTAINABILITY
Gandum is an example of how sustainable living is possible - and beautiful. We build with carbon-neutral materials such as earth, using the traditional Alentejo taipa method, and we apply a circular economy philosophy. We produce our own energy, return to the land everything we don't use and restore historic buildings, respecting the essence of the place. Every choice, from regenerative practices in agroforestry to water management, reflects our commitment to the planet and future generations.
A Historic Aqueduct
An aqueduct crosses the stream, adding a magical and timeless touch to the place.
Wildlife
The local fauna is equally impressive. Gandum is home to many species of birds, amphibians, mammals and insects. From storks and eagles to small frogs in the stream, this is a space where biodiversity is protected and celebrated.
PATHS AND LANDSCAPES TO DISCOVER
To explore Gandum is to immerse yourself in a unique experience. The trails cross cork and olive trees, flank the stream and lead you to magical spots such as the historic aqueduct or the views of Montemor-o-Novo castle. To walk here is to slow down, take a deep breath and discover the beauty of every detail.
NATURE THAT CHANGES AND INSPIRES
At Gandum, nature is alive, changing and surprising. Each season transforms the landscape:
Autumn: Golden and brown tones paint the horizon.
Winter: Vibrant green dominates after the rains.
Spring: Fields blooming and full of life.
Summer: The heat of the Alentejo is reflected in the golden hues of the fields.
Olive and cork trees
Robust trees that define the landscape and tell the story of the region's agricultural history.
The Gandum Stream
A fresh water course that crosses the farm, supplied by natural springs and accompanied by ancient wells, brings life to the property and the species that live here.
50,000 trees planted
Since the project began, we've planted more than 50,000 trees. This is just the beginning. Our aim is to continue planting, caring for and transforming the landscape, so that future generations can inherit a healthier, more balanced and more beautiful world. Every tree is a step on the road to a sustainable future, and at Gandum, every step counts.
Agro-forestry
There are three agroforests at Gandum, all of which have been planted since the beginning of the project and which are one of the pillars of the site's sustainability. Despite their young age, agroforestry makes it possible to produce food sustainably, using agricultural practices that preserve biodiversity and promote soil regeneration. What's more, they make the world breathe: they help mitigate climate change by capturing carbon and providing habitats for local fauna and flora. And they regulate water cycles!

Regenerative Agriculture
At Gandum, regenerative agriculture is the basis of our commitment to the land. This approach promotes the recovery of agricultural ecosystems, restoring soil health and biodiversity. With practices such as mulching, composting and the integration of crops and animals, we guarantee sustainable and balanced food production.
Regenerative agriculture helps mitigate climate change by increasing the soil's capacity to capture carbon and retain water. By giving back more to the soil than we take out, we create a system that not only sustains, but regenerates the environment. It's agriculture that takes care of the land, the planet and the future.
